Hair Extension FAQ's

Before & After Care

Before: Come to the appointment with freshly washed and dried hair. Use a clarifying or detoxifying shampoo and conditioner to strip away any oils or build up before your appointment. Come to the appointment with detangled hair. Don’t use any hair products including oils, leave-in conditioners, styling products before appointment. Dye your hair prior to appointment, we colour match your extensions to the colour you show us. Book a consultation if you are a first time client or want to switch your extension type.

After: Depending on the hair extension type, glued extensions will need 48 hours to dry before washing. You will need to factor in more time to wash, dry and style your longer thicker hair. While showering you’ll need to properly section your hair to ensure you clean and rinse it well. Do not let your hair extensions air dry. Never sleep with wet extensions. You may notice your head feels heavier or a tender scalp for the first few days while hair settles. Your extensions will blend better after your first wash. Hair extensions usually require different hair products. Avoid products with silicone. You may want to buy some extra moisturizing products as your extensions won’t benefit from the natural oils on your scalp. A wide tooth comb is a great gentle detangler when your hair is wet. A gentle mixed bristle brush may help keep your tangles at bay and add luster too. Detangle and separate hair daily, starting from the bottom and working your way up. Since you won’t be conditioning where the hair extensions are bonded to your hair you might need to incorporate a different leave-in conditioner. Add oil to keep the extensions moisturized. Apply a hair mask regularly. Brush gently daily, avoiding the bonds near your scalp. Sleep with your hair braided or in a hair cap to avoid matting. Use a shower cap to avoid getting your hair wet as often. Use silk scrunchies, hair caps, pillowcases to avoid pulling, friction, and tugging on hair. Schedule your maintenance appointments every 6-8 weeks.

What are hair extensions?

Hair extensions are human strands of hair that are attached to your natural hair to add length and volume. They are available in a variety of colors, textures, and lengths, allowing you to customize your look. Hair extensions can be applied using a variety of methods such as hand-tied, nano, tape-in, i-tip, and fusion. Extensions can be a great way to change up your style without having to make a permanent commitment.

Who should wear hair extensions?

Hair extensions can be a great way to add length, volume, and color to your look. Anyone with hair longer than 6 inches can wear hair extensions and they can be styled in many different ways to suit different occasions and styles. However, it is important to ensure that your hair is healthy, well blended, and to use quality hair extensions to create a look that is both beautiful and long-lasting.

How long will hair extensions last?

The longevity of hair extensions depends on the type of extensions you have and how well you care for them. Generally, human hair extensions can last up to three to eight months with proper care and regular maintenance. To maximize the lifespan of your hair extensions, be sure to follow the care instructions provided by the technician and avoid putting too much heat or product on the extensions.

How long is a hair extension appointment?

Hair extension appointments can vary in length depending on the type of hair extensions you are getting, the amount of hair extensions you are getting, and the complexity of the style. Generally, a hair extension appointment can take anywhere from two to four hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask your stylist for more information.

Can you describe the application process?

The hair extension application process starts with the selection of the hair extensions that you would like to use. Depending on the type of extensions you choose, the application process will vary. Generally, the hair extensions will need to be secured with beads, glue or sewn-in. You will be seated to relax in a chair.  There is no discomfort or pain involved in the procedure. Once the extensions are in place, you can style them as you would your own hair.
